PSCHE

Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSCHE) is a subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. It helps children and young people to stay healthy and safe, while preparing them to make the most of life and work.

When taught well, PSHCE education also helps pupils to achieve their academic potential (PSHE Association, 2020 online).  As well as this, it prepares them for life in modern Britain.

From September 2020, Relationships and Health Education has become statutory across all primary schools and this is taught in our school through a well planned PSHCE curriculum. This will ensure that PSHCE is embedded across the school and the children’s knowledge is built upon each year.

PSHCE is studied in three termly units. Each topic has links to areas of the new statutory requirements.

Topics are organised using a themed approach. The curriculum is enriched by having regular visitors by the local emergency services, school nursing team as well s other events throughout the year.

The subject is taught in many ways including discussion, stories or relevant group activities ensuring all children can participate.

PSHCE also links to other areas of the curriculum including: P.E, Science, R.E and Computing.

The Subject Co-ordinator evaluates coverage and children’s progress through monitoring of lessons and pupil conferencing.

Our Long term plan for PSHCE is shown below.
